Backpack volume by access zone calculator

Calculate volume-model compartment assignment by item and packed item count with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use volume-model compartment assignment by item and packed item count to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Calculation method

Calculation method

Volume-model compartment assignment by item

Exact bounded search maximizes packed item count, then total supplied priority points, then packed volume. Ties retain first explored assignment.

Packed item count

Count allocated indivisible items.

Unassigned item IDs

Items left out of the best supported volume-only assignment.

Assigned volume (L)

Sum allocated item volumes using exact six-decimal integer units.

Unused compartment volume (L)

Sum supplied compartment capacities−assigned volume, even if remaining spaces cannot hold a particular unassigned item.

Symbols and units
a
Indivisible items: ID, volume L, allowed compartment IDs joined by |, supplied priority points
b
Compartments: ID, supplied usable capacity L

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • A bounded exact volume/allocation model, not a three-dimensional packing or access guarantee. Allowed zones and priority points are supplied; shapes, compression, waterproofing and load suitability are outside scope. Search-state exhaustion returns an error rather than a false optimum.
