THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED
How to use this calculator.
One setup per active SKU and sequential work on one capacity pool. Zero-volume SKUs incur no setup; overlap and multiple machines are excluded.
Start with your inputs
Enter production units by sku, setup minutes by sku, processing minutes per unit by sku, available production minutes. Keep amounts in the units shown on each field. The example is a starting point, not a recommended value.
| Input | Example value |
|---|---|
| Production units by SKU | 100,50 |
| Setup minutes by SKU | 20,30 |
| Processing minutes per unit by SKU | 0.5,1 |
| Available production minutes | 180 |
A worked example
With the example inputs above, workload by sku (min) is 70, 80. Change the inputs to explore your own scenario.
| Result | Example answer |
|---|---|
| Workload by SKU (min) | 70, 80 |
| Total workload (min) | 150 |
| Capacity slack (min) | 30 |
How this is calculated
Workload by SKU (min)
For each active SKU add setup time and unit processing time.
Total workload (min)
Sum all active SKU work times.
Capacity slack (min)
Subtract total workload from available production minutes.
Symbols and units
- a
- Production units by SKU
- b
- Setup minutes by SKU
- c
- Processing minutes per unit by SKU
- d
- Available production minutes
Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions and limits
One setup per active SKU and sequential work on one capacity pool. Zero-volume SKUs incur no setup; overlap and multiple machines are excluded.
Calculations use the values you enter. Blank or invalid inputs show an error instead of silently substituting zero. Results are displayed to useful precision; calculations retain the underlying numeric precision.
Questions about this tool
What does the result tell me?
Workload by SKU (min); Total workload (min); Capacity slack (min). The result applies to the method and inputs described above. Check the units and assumptions before using it in a decision.
Why might another calculator differ?
Differences in units, rounding, timing or model definitions can produce different answers. Compare the input definitions and the method, rather than only the final number. For this tool: One setup per active SKU and sequential work on one capacity pool. Zero-volume SKUs incur no setup; overlap and multiple machines are excluded.
Are my inputs stored or sent to AI?
Calculations on this page happen in your browser. The separate AI question finder sends its submitted conversation to OpenAI; these calculator fields are not sent. Favourites and recent tool names are stored locally. A shared link contains the inputs you choose to include.
