Camping chair and table packing calculator

Calculate 3D stowage [ID,x,y,z,dx,dy,dz] and unplaced item IDs with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use 3D stowage [ID,x,y,z,dx,dy,dz] and unplaced item IDs to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Examples

Examples

Try the starting example

Vehicle bay length x (cm)
100
Vehicle bay width y (cm)
80
Vehicle bay height z (cm)
60
Folded items JSON [ID,length cm,width cm,height cm]
[["chair1",80,15,15],["chair2",80,15,15],["table",70,50,8]]
Reserved access strip width along y=0 (cm)
10
User gap between boxes (cm)
2
3D stowage [ID,x,y,z,dx,dy,dz] (cm)
[["chair1",0,10,0,80,15,15],["chair2",0,27,0,80,15,15],["table",82,10,0,8,70,50]]
Unplaced item IDs
[]
Reserved access box [x,y,z,dx,dy,dz] (cm)
[0,0,0,100,10,60]

Try another scenario

Vehicle bay length x (cm)
60
Vehicle bay width y (cm)
80
Vehicle bay height z (cm)
60
Folded items JSON [ID,length cm,width cm,height cm]
[["chair1",80,15,15],["chair2",80,15,15],["table",70,50,8]]
Reserved access strip width along y=0 (cm)
10
User gap between boxes (cm)
2
3D stowage [ID,x,y,z,dx,dy,dz] (cm)
[["table",0,10,0,8,70,50]]
Unplaced item IDs
["chair1","chair2"]
Reserved access box [x,y,z,dx,dy,dz] (cm)
[0,0,0,60,10,60]
Calculation method

Calculation method

3D stowage [ID,x,y,z,dx,dy,dz] (cm)

Process input order; try all six dimension permutations and anchors from existing right/back/top edges+gap. Choose lowest z,y,x then dimension tuple among nonoverlapping boxes inside bay outside access strip.

Unplaced item IDs

Heuristic leftovers, not proof of no 3D packing.

Reserved access box [x,y,z,dx,dy,dz] (cm)

[0,0,0,bayLength,accessWidth,bayHeight].

Symbols and units
a
Vehicle bay length x (cm)
b
Vehicle bay width y (cm)
c
Vehicle bay height z (cm)
d
Folded items JSON [ID,length cm,width cm,height cm]
e
Reserved access strip width along y=0 (cm)
f
User gap between boxes (cm)

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Bounding-box 3D packing proposal allowing arbitrary 90-degree rotations and unsupported stacking. Does not assess stability, tie-downs, payload, safe orientation or individual retrieval access; reserved access strip remains clear. Supported limits: 1..20 positive item boxes; positive bay; 0<=accessWidth<bayWidth; gap>=0; rotations assumed permitted by user for every item.
