THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED
How to use this calculator.
Piecewise constant observations with user-supplied supplier band; not a process or storage recommendation. Each reading represents the following supplied interval.
Start with your inputs
Enter humidity readings (%), interval durations represented (h), supplier working-band lower bound (%), supplier working-band upper bound (%). Keep amounts in the units shown on each field. The example is a starting point, not a recommended value.
| Input | Example value |
|---|---|
| Humidity readings (%) | 40,50,70 |
| Interval durations represented (h) | 1,2,1 |
| Supplier working-band lower bound (%) | 45 |
| Supplier working-band upper bound (%) | 60 |
A worked example
With the example inputs above, time below band (h) is 1. Change the inputs to explore your own scenario.
| Result | Example answer |
|---|---|
| Time below band (h) | 1 |
| Time above band (h) | 1 |
| Duration-weighted average humidity (%) | 52.5 |
How this is calculated
Time below band (h)
Add intervals whose reading is below the lower bound.
Time above band (h)
Add intervals whose reading exceeds upper bound.
Duration-weighted average humidity (%)
Weight each reading by represented time and divide by total time.
Symbols and units
- a
- Humidity readings (%)
- b
- Interval durations represented (h)
- c
- Supplier working-band lower bound (%)
- d
- Supplier working-band upper bound (%)
Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions and limits
Piecewise constant observations with user-supplied supplier band; not a process or storage recommendation. Each reading represents the following supplied interval.
Calculations use the values you enter. Blank or invalid inputs show an error instead of silently substituting zero. Results are displayed to useful precision; calculations retain the underlying numeric precision.
Questions about this tool
What does the result tell me?
Time below band (h); Time above band (h); Duration-weighted average humidity (%). The result applies to the method and inputs described above. Check the units and assumptions before using it in a decision.
Why might another calculator differ?
Differences in units, rounding, timing or model definitions can produce different answers. Compare the input definitions and the method, rather than only the final number. For this tool: Piecewise constant observations with user-supplied supplier band; not a process or storage recommendation. Each reading represents the following supplied interval.
Are my inputs stored or sent to AI?
Calculations on this page happen in your browser. The separate AI question finder sends its submitted conversation to OpenAI; these calculator fields are not sent. Favourites and recent tool names are stored locally. A shared link contains the inputs you choose to include.
