THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED
How to use this calculator.
A deterministic average-time budget. Every stop consumes the stated driving plus service time; fixed depot time is entered separately. Does not optimize a route or predict traffic, time windows or legally required breaks.
Start with your inputs
Enter shift length (minutes), average driving time per stop (minutes), average service time per stop (minutes), breaks (minutes), fixed depot travel and preparation (minutes). Keep amounts in the units shown on each field. The example is a starting point, not a recommended value.
| Input | Example value |
|---|---|
| Shift length (minutes) | 480 |
| Average driving time per stop (minutes) | 12 |
| Average service time per stop (minutes) | 8 |
| Breaks (minutes) | 30 |
| Fixed depot travel and preparation (minutes) | 50 |
A worked example
With the example inputs above, feasible stops is 20. Change the inputs to explore your own scenario.
| Result | Example answer |
|---|---|
| Feasible stops | 20 |
| Stop work time (minutes) | 400 |
| Unused shift buffer (minutes) | 0 |
How this is calculated
Feasible stops
Round down (shift − breaks − fixed time) ÷ (drive time + service time).
Stop work time (minutes)
Stop count × (drive time + service time).
Unused shift buffer (minutes)
Shift minus breaks, fixed time and stop work time.
Symbols and units

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions and limits
A deterministic average-time budget. Every stop consumes the stated driving plus service time; fixed depot time is entered separately. Does not optimize a route or predict traffic, time windows or legally required breaks.
Calculations use the values you enter. Blank or invalid inputs show an error instead of silently substituting zero. Results are displayed to useful precision; calculations retain the underlying numeric precision.
Questions about this tool
What does the result tell me?
Feasible stops; Stop work time (minutes); Unused shift buffer (minutes). The result applies to the method and inputs described above. Check the units and assumptions before using it in a decision.
Why might another calculator differ?
Differences in units, rounding, timing or model definitions can produce different answers. Compare the input definitions and the method, rather than only the final number. For this tool: A deterministic average-time budget. Every stop consumes the stated driving plus service time; fixed depot time is entered separately. Does not optimize a route or predict traffic, time windows or legally required breaks.
Are my inputs stored or sent to AI?
Calculations on this page happen in your browser. The separate AI question finder sends its submitted conversation to OpenAI; these calculator fields are not sent. Favourites and recent tool names are stored locally. A shared link contains the inputs you choose to include.
