EV battery usable-capacity observation calculator

Calculate observed usable capacity and lower capacity bound with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use observed usable capacity and lower capacity bound to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Calculation method

Calculation method

Observed usable capacity (kWh)

Delivered energy/SOC change.

Lower capacity bound (kWh)

max(0,energy−energy uncertainty)/(SOC change+SOC uncertainty).

Upper capacity bound (kWh)

(energy+energy uncertainty)/(SOC change−SOC uncertainty).

Symbols and units
a
Delivered battery-side energy (kWh)
b
Observed SOC change (fraction)
c
Absolute energy measurement uncertainty (kWh)
d
Absolute SOC-change uncertainty (fraction)

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Capacity inferred from observed SOC change. This observation is not a battery health diagnosis. Supported limits: All numeric inputs and computed intermediates must remain finite. Supported numeric input magnitude is zero or 1e-12 through 1e12 in absolute value; reject values outside this bounded range. All lists/JSON record tables are limited to 100 records unless a stricter bound is stated; reject malformed record arity and wrong member types. SOC change > uncertainty >=0; SOC change+uncertainty <=1; energy>=energy uncertainty>=0.
