Try another scenario
- Catch volumes in equally spaced cans (mL)
- 10,20,30,40
- Corresponding can opening areas (cm²)
- 10,20,30,40

- Mean lowest-quarter depth (mm)
- 10
- Individual caught depths (mm)
- 10, 10, 10, 10
Calculation method
Calculation method
Low-quarter distribution uniformity (%)
Sort normalised depths; average the lowest exactly one-quarter of samples, divide by the overall mean and multiply by 100. Sample count must be a multiple of four.
Mean caught depth (mm)
Average of 10 × mL / opening area cm² across equally spaced sampling positions.
Mean lowest-quarter depth (mm)
Arithmetic mean of the lowest quarter of normalised depths.
Individual caught depths (mm)
10 × volume / can opening area for every sample.
Symbols and units
- a
- Catch volumes in equally spaced cans (mL)
- b
- Corresponding can opening areas (cm²)
Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions & limits
Assumptions & limits
- Normalises varying can opening areas into depths. Sampling locations must represent equal field areas; radial centre-pivot layouts need different spatial weighting. This measurement is not root-zone efficiency or a watering recommendation.
