Leather hide usable yield calculator

Calculate cut placements [hide number,ID,x,y,width, height] and required hides with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use cut placements [hide number,ID,x,y,width, height] and required hides to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Calculation method

Calculation method

Cut placements [hide number,ID,x,y,width,height]

Sort height then width descending; first feasible lower-left edge-grid point in existing hide, otherwise identical new hide with same defect map.

Required hides

Number of opened rectangular hides.

Yield on usable hide area

Placed panel area / (opened hides×(hide area−nonoverlapping defect area)).

Unplaceable panels

No fitting position exists among supported edge candidates on a fresh hide.

Symbols and units
a
JSON Grain-aligned panels [ID,width mm,height mm,integer quantity]
b
Rectangular hide width (mm)
c
Rectangular hide height (mm)
d
JSON Mapped excluded defects [x mm,y mm,width mm,height mm]

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Rectangular hide stock with explicit disjoint rectangular defects; panel axes already encode grain restrictions and no rotation allowed. Feasible greedy cuts with actual defect avoidance, not optimal irregular-hide nesting. Supported limits: At most 100 expanded panels and 100 defect rectangles; positive panel/hide dimensions; boundary touches allowed.
