- Scripts to mark
- 12
- Measured minutes per section
- 2,3
- Gross marker availability (hours)
- 1,1
- Break reserve within each marker shift (minutes)
- 10
- Total marking work (hours)
- 1
- Scripts assigned by marker
- 10, 2
- Scripts left unassigned
- 0
- Unused usable marker minutes
- 40
Try another scenario
- Scripts to mark
- 25
- Measured minutes per section
- 2,3
- Gross marker availability (hours)
- 1,0.5
- Break reserve within each marker shift (minutes)
- 10
- Total marking work (hours)
- 2.083333
- Scripts assigned by marker
- 10, 4
- Scripts left unassigned
- 11
- Unused usable marker minutes
- 0
Calculation method
Calculation method
Total marking work (hours)
Script count × sum section minutes / 60.
Scripts assigned by marker
Remove each marker break reserve, then fill whole scripts in marker input order, never exceeding usable time.
Scripts left unassigned
Script count − total assigned.
Unused usable marker minutes
Sum usable marker minutes − assigned scripts × minutes per script.
Symbols and units
- a
- Scripts to mark
- b
- Measured minutes per section
- c
- Gross marker availability (hours)
- d
- Break reserve within each marker shift (minutes)
Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions & limits
Assumptions & limits
- Whole-script capacity from observed section timings. Marker order determines allocation; break time is reserved once per marker shift. It does not model training, moderation or different marker speeds.
