Calculation method
Calculation method
Eigenvalues as real, imaginary pairs
Use a real matrix eigendecomposition, retaining complex conjugate pairs and sorting by real then imaginary part.
Maximum entrywise eigen-relation residual
Evaluate max|A×V−V×D|, where D uses real 2×2 blocks for complex conjugate eigenvalues.
Matrix dimension
Number of rows and columns, limited to 20.
Symbols and units
- a
- Square real matrix, rows on separate lines
Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions & limits
Assumptions & limits
- Finite real square matrices up to 20×20. The residual is a numerical consistency check, not a forward-error bound; defective or ill-conditioned eigenvalues can remain sensitive. Double-precision results are approximate. Numeric tables use 12 significant digits and display components at roundoff scale (32 machine epsilons relative to their row or relevant calculation scale) as zero; scalar diagnostics retain full precision.
