Calculation method
Calculation method
Miter setting from square (degrees)
180 / side count.
Finished inside length per side (mm)
Outside side length − 2 × stock width × tan(π / side count).
Centreline length per side (mm)
Outside side length − stock width × tan(π / side count).
Total outside-edge length (mm)
Side count × outside side length, before kerf or trimming.
Inside corner angle (degrees)
180 − 360 / side count.
Symbols and units
- a
- Regular polygon sides
- b
- Finished outside length per side (mm)
- c
- Frame stock width in its plane (mm)
Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions & limits
Assumptions & limits
- Equal-width coplanar segments of an ideal regular polygon. The miter setting is measured from a square crosscut, not the included angle between pieces. Kerf, tolerances and joint strength are excluded.
