Examples
Try the starting example
- Wagon lengths (millimetres)
- 300,250,200
- Industry usable lengths (millimetres)
- 500,400
- Spotting assignments (JSON)
- {"assignments":[1,2,1],"loads":[500,250],"unassigned":[]}
- Unspotted wagons (count)
- 0
Try another scenario
- Wagon lengths (millimetres)
- 350,300,200,150
- Industry usable lengths (millimetres)
- 600,400
- Spotting assignments (JSON)
- {"assignments":[1,2,1,null],"loads":[550,300],"unassigned":[4]}
- Unspotted wagons (count)
- 1
Calculation method
Calculation method
Spotting assignments (JSON)
Sort wagons longest first; choose feasible industry with smallest current occupied length, tie by index.
Unspotted wagons (count)
Number left after greedy assignment; does not prove no alternative exists.
Symbols and units
- a
- Wagon lengths (millimetres)
- b
- Industry usable lengths (millimetres)
Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions & limits
Assumptions & limits
- Greedy longest-wagon-first spotting on user-permitted tracks; no switching-path simulation. Supported limits: All numeric inputs and computed intermediates must remain finite. Supported numeric input magnitude is zero or 1e-12 through 1e12 in absolute value; reject values outside this bounded range. All lists/JSON record tables are limited to 100 records unless a stricter bound is stated; reject malformed record arity and wrong member types. All numeric values must be finite. Lists contain at most 100 records; required lists must be nonempty. Rates, probabilities and fractions are entered as fractions, not percentages; fractions must be between 0 and 1. Use a single consistent user-selected currency for all amounts; no exchange-rate conversion.
