Calculation method

Calculation method

Unrotated blank grid count

A vertical fold uses an unfolded blank of 2×panel width by panel height; a horizontal fold uses panel width by 2×panel height. Fit a uniform grid without gutters.

90-degree rotated blank grid count

Swap the blank dimensions and fit the second uniform grid.

Orientations with fold parallel to grain

The fold line must be parallel to the supplied sheet-grain direction after artwork rotation.

Largest compatible grid count

Largest grid count among the grain-compatible orientations only; zero is a valid no-fit result.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Ideal single-fold rectangular blanks and uniform grids with no bleed, gripper, trim or gutter allowance. Grain compatibility is geometric; paper grade, coating and scoring still determine actual fold quality.
