Project buffer consumption calculator

Calculate latest buffer consumption by chain and consumption/progress ratio by chain with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use latest buffer consumption by chain and consumption/progress ratio by chain to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Examples

Examples

Try the starting example

Snapshots: chain, day index, initial buffer, buffer used, chain completion %
Project,0,10,2,20 Project,5,10,5,40 Feeding,0,4,1,25 Feeding,5,4,2,50
Latest buffer consumption by chain (%)
Project: 50; Feeding: 50
Consumption/progress ratio by chain
Project: 1.25; Feeding: 1
Latest consumption trend (percentage points/day)
Project: 6; Feeding: 5
Chain count

Try another scenario

Snapshots: chain, day index, initial buffer, buffer used, chain completion %
Project,0,10,2,20 Project,5,10,3,40 Feeding,0,4,1,25 Feeding,5,4,2,50
Latest buffer consumption by chain (%)
Project: 30; Feeding: 50
Consumption/progress ratio by chain
Project: 0.75; Feeding: 1
Latest consumption trend (percentage points/day)
Project: 2; Feeding: 5
Chain count

Calculation method

Calculation method

Latest buffer consumption by chain (%)

Use each chain’s highest day index, with consumed percentage=used/initial buffer×100.

Consumption/progress ratio by chain

Consumed percentage / chain completion percentage; undefined when progress is zero and consumption is positive.

Latest consumption trend (percentage points/day)

Difference in consumed percentage between last two snapshots divided by elapsed day indices. A single snapshot has no trend.

Chain count

Count distinct chain labels.

Symbols and units
a
Snapshots: chain, day index, initial buffer, buffer used, chain completion %

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Tracks supplied buffer and progress observations without prescribing red/amber/green thresholds. Consumption may exceed 100%, and a negative trend may reflect your entered recovery or revised observation.
