THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED
How to use this calculator.
Hired, maintenance and idle categories are mutually exclusive; a day is allocated wholly to one category.
Start with your inputs
Enter available calendar days by asset, hired days by asset, maintenance days by asset. Keep amounts in the units shown on each field. The example is a starting point, not a recommended value.
| Input | Example value |
|---|---|
| Available calendar days by asset | 30,30 |
| Hired days by asset | 20,15 |
| Maintenance days by asset | 5,3 |
A worked example
With the example inputs above, idle days by asset is 5, 12. Change the inputs to explore your own scenario.
| Result | Example answer |
|---|---|
| Idle days by asset | 5, 12 |
| Calendar utilization by asset (%) | 66.666667, 50 |
| Rentable-day utilization (%) | 67.307692 |
How this is calculated
Idle days by asset
Deduct hired and maintenance days from total asset days.
Calendar utilization by asset (%)
Divide hire days by all calendar asset days.
Rentable-day utilization (%)
Exclude maintenance days from the pooled denominator.

Assumptions and limits
Hired, maintenance and idle categories are mutually exclusive; a day is allocated wholly to one category.
Calculations use the values you enter. Blank or invalid inputs show an error instead of silently substituting zero. Results are displayed to useful precision; calculations retain the underlying numeric precision.
Questions about this tool
What does the result tell me?
Idle days by asset; Calendar utilization by asset (%); Rentable-day utilization (%). The result applies to the method and inputs described above. Check the units and assumptions before using it in a decision.
Why might another calculator differ?
Differences in units, rounding, timing or model definitions can produce different answers. Compare the input definitions and the method, rather than only the final number. For this tool: Hired, maintenance and idle categories are mutually exclusive; a day is allocated wholly to one category.
Are my inputs stored or sent to AI?
