Room axial mode explorer calculator

Calculate axial frequencies by axis and sorted axial frequencies with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use axial frequencies by axis and sorted axial frequencies to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Calculation method

Calculation method

Axial frequencies by axis (Hz)

For each axis and order j=1..limit, frequency = j × sound speed / (2 × axis length).

Sorted axial frequencies (Hz)

Sort all generated axis/order modes by frequency, retaining duplicates.

Cross-axis near-coincidence pairs

Count pairs from different axes whose absolute frequency difference is within the entered inclusive tolerance.

Axial mode count

Three axes × selected order limit.

Symbols and units
a
Rectangular room axis lengths (m)
b
User-selected sound speed (m/s)
c
Axial orders per axis
d
Near-coincidence tolerance (Hz)

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Ideal rigid rectangular boundaries and axial modes only. Tangential/oblique modes, damping, sound levels, openings and treatment performance are excluded. Sound speed is supplied rather than inferred.
