THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED
How to use this calculator.
Round count assumes enough venues and no rest restrictions. This version calculates counts, not named fixtures.
Start with your inputs
Enter teams, meetings per pair. Keep amounts in the units shown on each field. The example is a starting point, not a recommended value.
| Input | Example value |
|---|---|
| Teams | 6 |
| Meetings per pair | 1 |
A worked example
With the example inputs above, matches is 15. Change the inputs to explore your own scenario.

|---|---|
| Matches | 15 |
| Rounds (one match/team per round) | 5 |
How this is calculated
Matches
a × (a−1)/2 × b
Rounds (one match/team per round)
For an even team count: (a−1) × b. For an odd team count: a × b, allowing one bye per round.
Symbols and units

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions and limits
Round count assumes enough venues and no rest restrictions. This version calculates counts, not named fixtures.
Calculations use the values you enter. Blank or invalid inputs show an error instead of silently substituting zero. Results are displayed to useful precision; calculations retain the underlying numeric precision.

Why might another calculator differ?
Differences in units, rounding, timing or model definitions can produce different answers. Compare the input definitions and the method, rather than only the final number. For this tool: Round count assumes enough venues and no rest restrictions. This version calculates counts, not named fixtures.
