THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED
How to use this calculator.
The monthly deposit increases once at each year boundary. Interest is applied monthly before each deposit.
Start with your inputs
Enter starting balance (£), initial monthly deposit (£), annual deposit increase (%), annual nominal return (%), years. Keep amounts in the units shown on each field. The example is a starting point, not a recommended value.
| Input | Example value |
|---|---|
| Starting balance (£) | 0 |
| Initial monthly deposit (£) | 100 |
| Annual deposit increase (%) | 10 |
| Annual nominal return (%) | 0 |
| Years | 2 |
A worked example
With the example inputs above, final balance (£) is 2,520. Change the inputs to explore your own scenario.

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Calculation steps and notation
For each month, apply interest at annual percentage/1200, then add that month’s deposit. Before months 13, 25, 37, and so on, multiply the deposit by (1 + annual deposit growth/100). Return the ending balance.
Assumptions and limits
The monthly deposit increases once at each year boundary. Interest is applied monthly before each deposit.
Calculations use the values you enter. Blank or invalid inputs show an error instead of silently substituting zero. Results are displayed to useful precision; calculations retain the underlying numeric precision.
Questions about this tool
What does the result tell me?
Final balance (£). The result applies to the method and inputs described above. Check the units and assumptions before using it in a decision.
Why might another calculator differ?
Differences in units, rounding, timing or model definitions can produce different answers. Compare the input definitions and the method, rather than only the final number. For this tool: The monthly deposit increases once at each year boundary. Interest is applied monthly before each deposit.
Are my inputs stored or sent to AI?
