Security backup isolation inventory calculator

Calculate minimum named-domain failures disabling every supplied copy and number of minimum-cardinality disabling domain sets with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use minimum named-domain failures disabling every supplied copy and number of minimum-cardinality disabling domain sets to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Calculation method

Calculation method

Minimum named-domain failures disabling every supplied copy

Enumerate all subsets of at most 12 named domains; each copy fails if any of its listed domains fails.

Number of minimum-cardinality disabling domain sets

Count all disabling sets with that minimum number of domains.

First 20 minimum disabling domain sets

Show the first 20 in subset-enumeration order, explicitly not a complete list when count exceeds 20.

Surviving copies after each single-domain failure

Count copies not depending on the failed domain.

Smallest surviving-copy count after one named-domain failure

Minimum survivor count across supplied single-domain scenarios.

Symbols and units
a
Backup copies: ID, domains whose failure disables that copy, joined by |

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • An exact bounded shared-failure-domain inventory model. Each domain is assumed to disable all listed dependent copies; unlisted key, identity, storage and restore dependencies are invisible. No backup isolation or recovery assurance is certified.
