THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED
How to use this calculator.
Single usable freezer volume allocated by agreed weights; all volumes must be measured consistently, including packing voids.
Start with your inputs
Enter freezer shelf capacity (l), agreed resident quota weights, resident stored volume (l). Keep amounts in the units shown on each field. The example is a starting point, not a recommended value.
| Input | Example value |
|---|---|
| Freezer shelf capacity (L) | 100 |
| Agreed resident quota weights | 1,1,2 |
| Resident stored volume (L) | 20,30,40 |
A worked example
With the example inputs above, resident quota volumes (l) is 25, 25, 50. Change the inputs to explore your own scenario.
| Result | Example answer |
|---|---|
| Resident quota volumes (L) | 25, 25, 50 |
| Resident unused quota (L) | 5, -5, 10 |
| Physical free volume (L) | 10 |
How this is calculated
Resident quota volumes (L)
Allocate shelf capacity in proportion to quota weights.
Resident unused quota (L)
Subtract stored volume from each allocated quota; negative is over quota.
Physical free volume (L)
Subtract total stored volume from shelf capacity.
Symbols and units
- a

- b
- Agreed resident quota weights
- c
- Resident stored volume (L)
Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions and limits
Single usable freezer volume allocated by agreed weights; all volumes must be measured consistently, including packing voids.
Calculations use the values you enter. Blank or invalid inputs show an error instead of silently substituting zero. Results are displayed to useful precision; calculations retain the underlying numeric precision.
Questions about this tool
What does the result tell me?
Resident quota volumes (L); Resident unused quota (L); Physical free volume (L). The result applies to the method and inputs described above. Check the units and assumptions before using it in a decision.
Why might another calculator differ?
Differences in units, rounding, timing or model definitions can produce different answers. Compare the input definitions and the method, rather than only the final number. For this tool: Single usable freezer volume allocated by agreed weights; all volumes must be measured consistently, including packing voids.
Are my inputs stored or sent to AI?
Calculations on this page happen in your browser. The separate AI question finder sends its submitted conversation to OpenAI; these calculator fields are not sent. Favourites and recent tool names are stored locally. A shared link contains the inputs you choose to include.
