Sofa diagonal doorway check calculator

Calculate axis-through-opening scenarios [axis, first feasible [angle°,width margin cm,height margin cm]] with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use axis-through-opening scenarios [axis, first feasible [angle°,width margin cm,height margin cm]] to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Calculation method

Calculation method

Axis-through-opening scenarios [axis,first feasible [angle°,width margin cm,height margin cm]]

For each principal axis passing through opening, rotate the other two dimensions 0..maximumTilt in whole degrees; projected W=u*cos(t)+v*sin(t), H=u*sin(t)+v*cos(t).

Principal orientations with a sampled fit

Count axes with at least one feasible sampled cross section.

Symbols and units
a
Rigid sofa length (cm)
b
Rigid sofa depth (cm)
c
Rigid sofa height (cm)
d
Clear doorway width (cm)
e
Clear doorway height (cm)
f
Maximum tested tilt (whole degrees)

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Rigid rectangular bounding-box cross-section test. Whole-degree sampled orientations only; failure does not prove impossibility between samples. Assumes the third dimension is unobstructed through an infinitely thin doorway; corridor turns, wall depth and maneuvering space excluded. Supported limits: Positive finite dimensions; integer tilt 0..90; contact counts as geometric fit with zero margin.
