Transit lost-property handling workload calculator

Calculate handling workload and steady-state retained items with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use handling workload and steady-state retained items to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Examples

Examples

Try the starting example

Items received per day (count)
20
Stage handling durations (minutes/item)
2,3,1
Average retained days (count)
7
Storage footprint per item (litres)
2
Handling workload (staff hours/day)
2
Steady-state retained items (count)
140
Storage volume (litres)
280

Try another scenario

Items received per day (count)
30
Stage handling durations (minutes/item)
3,4
Average retained days (count)
5
Storage footprint per item (litres)
1.5
Handling workload (staff hours/day)
3.5
Steady-state retained items (count)
150
Storage volume (litres)
225
Calculation method

Calculation method

Handling workload (staff hours/day)

Items×sum stage minutes/60.

Steady-state retained items (count)

Items/day×retained days, assuming arrivals equal disposals in steady state.

Storage volume (litres)

Retained items×volume/item.

Symbols and units
a
Items received per day (count)
b
Stage handling durations (minutes/item)
c
Average retained days (count)
d
Storage footprint per item (litres)

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Measured per-item handling stages and constant daily arrivals; Little-style storage bookkeeping under a supplied retention duration. Supported limits: All numeric inputs and computed intermediates must remain finite. Supported numeric input magnitude is zero or 1e-12 through 1e12 in absolute value; reject values outside this bounded range. All lists/JSON record tables are limited to 100 records unless a stricter bound is stated; reject malformed record arity and wrong member types. All numeric values must be finite. Lists contain at most 100 records; required lists must be nonempty. Rates, probabilities and fractions are entered as fractions, not percentages; fractions must be between 0 and 1. Use a single consistent user-selected currency for all amounts; no exchange-rate conversion.
