Transit weekend service scenario calculator

Calculate served passenger trips and unserved passenger trips with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Choose the currency for these amounts. Changing it keeps your numbers and does not convert exchange rates.

Use served passenger trips and unserved passenger trips to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Examples

Examples

Try the starting example

Operated trips (count)
10
Seats per trip (count)
30
Demanded passenger trips (count)
240
Operating cost per trip (USD)
80
Fare per served passenger (USD)
2
Served passenger trips
240
Unserved passenger trips
0
Net operating cost (USD)
$320.00

Try another scenario

Operated trips (count)
12
Seats per trip (count)
25
Demanded passenger trips (count)
350
Operating cost per trip (USD)
90
Fare per served passenger (USD)
2.5
Served passenger trips
300
Unserved passenger trips
50
Net operating cost (USD)
$330.00
Calculation method

Calculation method

Served passenger trips

min(demand,trips×seats).

Unserved passenger trips

max(0,demand−trips×seats).

Net operating cost (USD)

Trips×cost−served passenger trips×fare.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Aggregate weekend service scenario. Passenger coverage is constrained only by total seats, with no route or timing inference. Supported limits: All numeric inputs and computed intermediates must remain finite. Supported numeric input magnitude is zero or 1e-12 through 1e12 in absolute value; reject values outside this bounded range. All lists/JSON record tables are limited to 100 records unless a stricter bound is stated; reject malformed record arity and wrong member types. All numeric values must be finite. Lists contain at most 100 records; required lists must be nonempty. Rates, probabilities and fractions are entered as fractions, not percentages; fractions must be between 0 and 1. Use a single consistent user-selected currency for all amounts; no exchange-rate conversion.
