Warehouse slotting priority calculator

Calculate sKU-to-location proposal and unassigned SKU indices with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use sKU-to-location proposal and unassigned SKU indices to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Try the starting example

SKU picks per period
100,20
Required storage cube by SKU (m³)
2,3
Location travel distances (m)

SKU-to-location proposal
SKU 1 → location 1; SKU 2 → location 2
Unassigned SKU indices
None
Remaining location capacities (m³)

Try another scenario

SKU picks per period
100,20
Required storage cube by SKU (m³)
3,3
Location travel distances (m)
1,5
Available location capacities (m³)
2,3
SKU-to-location proposal
SKU 1 → location 2
Unassigned SKU indices

Calculation method

Calculation method

SKU-to-location proposal

Rank SKUs by picks/required cube, descending; assign each whole SKU to the nearest location with enough residual capacity.

Unassigned SKU indices

List any SKU that the heuristic could not place.

Remaining location capacities (m³)

Subtract assigned SKU cube from each location’s capacity.

Assigned pick-distance score

For assigned SKUs only, sum pick frequency × assigned location distance.

Symbols and units
a
SKU picks per period
b
Required storage cube by SKU (m³)
c
Location travel distances (m)
d
Available location capacities (m³)

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Whole-SKU greedy slotting with user-supplied cube and travel distances. Multiple SKUs may share a location within its cube limit. The score covers assigned picks only and is not an optimal warehouse-layout or handling-cost claim. Weight and compatibility rules are outside this cube model.
