THE NUMBERS, EXPLAINED
How to use this calculator.
Adds a fixed setup, a per-person photo allowance and the matching transition allowance for each group. It is a planning estimate, not a promise of shot duration.
Start with your inputs
Enter people in each group, setup minutes per group, photo minutes per person, travel/transition minutes by group, available session minutes. Keep amounts in the units shown on each field. The example is a starting point, not a recommended value.
| Input | Example value |
|---|---|
| People in each group | 5,8,4 |
| Setup minutes per group | 3 |
| Photo minutes per person | 1 |
| Travel/transition minutes by group | 0,5,0 |
| Available session minutes | 45 |
A worked example
With the example inputs above, minutes by group is 8, 16, 7. Change the inputs to explore your own scenario.
| Result | Example answer |
|---|---|
| Minutes by group | 8, 16, 7 |
| Required session minutes | 31 |
| Available buffer (minutes) | 14 |
How this is calculated
Minutes by group
For each group: setup minutes + people × photo minutes per person + transition minutes.
Required session minutes
Sum all group minutes.
Available buffer (minutes)
Available session minutes minus required minutes; a negative value indicates overrun.

Assumptions and limits
Adds a fixed setup, a per-person photo allowance and the matching transition allowance for each group. It is a planning estimate, not a promise of shot duration.
Calculations use the values you enter. Blank or invalid inputs show an error instead of silently substituting zero. Results are displayed to useful precision; calculations retain the underlying numeric precision.
