Calculation method
Calculation method
Left amplitude gain
Linear: 1 − position. Equal-power: cos(position × π/2).
Right amplitude gain
Linear: position. Equal-power: sin(position × π/2).
Sum of squared gains
Left gain² + right gain².
Coherent mono-sum gain
Left + right gains for identical, in-phase channels summed without attenuation.
Combined-power change (dB)
10 × log10(sum of squared gains), relative to a unity single-channel signal.
Symbols and units
- a
- Pan position: 0=left, 1=right
- b
- Law: linear or equal-power
Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.
Assumptions & limits
Assumptions & limits
- Compares electrical amplitude/power laws. Coherent mono sum is different from squared-gain power; room response and perceived loudness are not predicted.
