Embedded implicit-deadline task utilization calculator

Calculate processor utilization and model utilization bound with your own figures.

Your numbers

Use the units shown. Results update as you change valid inputs.

Use processor utilization and model utilization bound to compare changes to your inputs. The method and limits below explain the scope.

Examples

Examples

Try the starting example

Periodic tasks [execution time,period,relative deadline]
[[1,5,5],[2,10,10]]
Model: 0 EDF implicit deadline; 1 rate-monotonic sufficient bound
0
Processor utilization
0.4
Model utilization bound
1
Screening result
Within stated utilization bound

Try another scenario

Periodic tasks [execution time,period,relative deadline]
[[2,5,5],[2,10,10]]
Model: 0 EDF implicit deadline; 1 rate-monotonic sufficient bound
0
Processor utilization
0.6
Model utilization bound
1
Screening result
Within stated utilization bound
Calculation method

Calculation method

Processor utilization

Sum execution/period on one ideal preemptive processor.

Model utilization bound

EDF bound1 for deadline=period; rate-monotonic n(2^(1/n)−1).

Screening result

EDF exact utilization condition under ideal independent implicit-deadline assumptions; RM sufficient test only.

Symbols and units
a
Periodic tasks [execution time,period,relative deadline]
b
Model: 0 EDF implicit deadline; 1 rate-monotonic sufficient bound

Use the units shown. A list keeps the order in which you enter its values. The symbol ^ means “raised to the power of”.

Assumptions & limits

Assumptions & limits

  • Independent periodic tasks with deadlines equal to periods, one ideal fully preemptive processor, no blocking or scheduling overhead. Constrained/arbitrary deadlines are explicitly rejected rather than applying an invalid utilization rule. Quantities are deterministic calculations from supplied observations and assumptions; no external data is fetched. Supported limits: Finite inputs only; numeric fields bounded as labelled. Lists and JSON records are limited to 256 entries unless a stricter tool bound is stated. No automatic design approval, legal conclusion, treatment recommendation or safety certification. Model: 0 EDF implicit deadline; 1 rate-monotonic sufficient bound: minimum 0, maximum 1.
